My contribution to the exhibition centred around a unique independent shop in the town ... Instant ReDress ... but I didn't just photograph, at a time like this, recording thoughts is just as important ...

Bridport always comes out as one of the best places in the country to celebrate New Years Eve.

There are a couple of reasons for that; lots of pubs, wide streets and a clock in the middle of town ... then there's the tradition of everyone dressing up supported by an excellent independent trader 'Instant ReDress' ...

As we all know, last New Years Eve was all but cancelled ... but Instant ReDress isn't 'just' a fancy dress shop ... young people travel for miles for the 'Mall Goth' clothing and 'Festival Wear Suits' ... and then there's the hats; and we all know how Bridport likes a hat!

Bridports' quirkiness, its vibrancy and diverse activities are what I love .. unfortunately everything has been temporarily curtailed due to Covid.

Interaction with others is what sparks the creativity in Bridport ... there is light at the end of the tunnel, and we are starting to see glimpses of it, which is a tease really, as we all need to be fully in the sunlight again ...

Instant ReDress

The Roaring Twenties followed hot on the heels of the Great Depression. We've had austerity and a pandemic but I think we're getting ready to roar again ...

And when we do, Instant ReDress is going to be the place that helps Bridport let its hair down (and if you haven't got any ... they've got wigs).

Q: Are there things that you have now realised you'd been taking for granted before the pandemic and periods of lockdown?

A: Clear spectacles! Foggy glasses are neither fun nor helpful.

Q: What do you love most about Bridport, and the local area where we live? Many parts of our lives are quite different right now. Do you want to go back to how things were, or would you like to see some lasting change?

A: Its the small shops and community we have here. I can walk in to any of our small independent shop and they know my name ... Bridport is a special place ... During the lock down people were more caring about each other, lets keep that mentality. Bridport is a town that will bounce back.
